To reflect and celebrate the diversity of the Americas through the study of latin-american repertoire and peer-to-peer mentoring within the context of excellent orchestral training and performing.
AYO System of Orchestras
American Youth Orchestra offers three levels of innovative training and performing ensembles for young musicians ages 7 to 23, with prior experience playing an orchestral string instrument. Students rehearse and perform under the leadership of highly trained and experienced teaching artists. The directors selected the repertoire for the AYO curriculum with sequential pedagogical goals in mind. The ensembles practice and perform both independently and together, allowing students to teach other students and providing podium time for young conductors. There are also opportunities for students to receive coachings, participate in workshops and perform with locally, citywide, nationally and internationally recognized musicians.
The American Youth Orchestra is a collaborative project involving Opportunity Music Project, United Palace of Cultural Arts, Celia Cruz High School, and WHIN Music Project.
